Cronos roadmap

A high-level view of where Cronos and the Cronos Wallet are heading: protocol, tooling and ecosystem themes for the next iterations.

DISCLAIMER This roadmap highlights long-term themes rather than fixed delivery dates. Priorities may shift as the Cronos ecosystem evolves.

2025+ roadmap themes

The future direction of Cronos development can be grouped into four long-running themes that shape both protocol improvements and the Cronos Wallet experience.

  • Scalability — predictable fees and lower latency under growing network load.
  • Security — continuous hardening across the protocol, nodes and wallet surface.
  • Developer experience — simpler tooling, clearer interfaces and fewer integration hurdles.
  • User experience — safer defaults and clearer explanations for on-chain actions.

For foundational concepts behind Cronos, see the Background overview.

Protocol & network

Protocol-level work focuses on reinforcing network performance and making node operation more transparent and predictable.

Performance
Ongoing optimisation of block processing, networking and storage paths to improve throughput during peak usage.
Observability
Improved metrics, debugging surfaces and tracing tools for validators and infrastructure providers.
Upgrade lifecycle
More predictable upgrade rollout, clearer deprecation phases and stronger test environments.

Technical details of network architecture are covered in the Architecture section.

Wallet & UX

Wallet improvements aim to surface protocol complexity in a way that is intuitive for users while tightening safety around interactions with smart contracts.

  • Clearer explanations and simulation of contract calls before approval.
  • Automatic detection of risky approvals, unusual transfers or contract behaviours.
  • More transparent permissions for connected dApps.
  • Unified portfolio and history view across Cronos networks.

Installation and onboarding instructions are available in the Install guide.

Ecosystem initiatives

Ecosystem-level work continues alongside core protocol development to expand tooling and support for builders.

  • Developer grants and hackathons encouraging new DeFi, NFT and gaming use-cases.
  • Deeper integrations with RPC providers, indexers and analytics services.
  • Example dApps and reference implementations to shorten the learning curve.

For practical developer paths, the Developer resources section aggregates tutorials, patterns and tooling recommendations.
